The infamous 27 Club is one of the most discussed and scary topics in the music industry. The idea of this infamous club reappeared in public after the mysterious death of the legendary British pop singer Amy Winehouse. The untimely deaths of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, and Janis Joplin between 1969 and 1971 were the birth of this urban legend.
Their deaths are forever shrouded in mystery, and there are many conspiracy theories about them. They all died at the age of twenty-seven. But the mysterious death of musicians who died at the age of 27 is not a new phenomenon. Alexandre Levy, another famous musician, was the first to die a mysterious death at the age of 27.
Who is behind the death of these 49 famous musicians and why on earth would anyone want to kill them? These are questions that may never be answered!
Jimi Hendrix
At the Monterey International Pop Festival in June 1967, a high school dropout surprised the audience by playing his guitar with his teeth, behind his back! A legend was born who set an example for the rock music industry. He was none other than the best rock guitarist of all time, the inimitable Jimi Hendrix. He jammed with almost every guitarist of his time and produced all-time hits like “Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)”, “Still Raining, Still Dreaming” and “House Burning Down”. In his short career of three and a half years, he toured the whole world.
In September 1970 he was on tour in Great Britain, on 17 September he had breathing difficulties and was found unconscious. He was rushed to the hospital and declared dead. On September 21, an autopsy was performed, which revealed that Jimi Hendrix had died choking on his own vomit! The details of the infamous 27 Club, his last days, and his death are still highly controversial today.
Brian Jones
Brian Jones was one of the founders of the legendary rock band Rolling Stones. He played slide guitar in famous albums like I Wanna Be Your Man (1963), I’m King Bee (1964), Little Red Rooster (1964) and many others. He was found dead in his swimming pool on the night of July 2nd, but the exact time of his death is uncertain. However, his friends were convinced that he was murdered.
Jim Morrison
The lead singer of the Doors, a famous rock group of the late sixties, Jim Morrison, was also a famous poet, mystic, and filmmaker. This extremely talented young man with a baritone voice was catapulted to fame after the release of “Light My Fire”, which was number one for more than three weeks. Since then he never looked back. In March 1971 Jim moved to Paris, and on July 3, 1971, he died of an apparent heart attack. Interestingly, however, no autopsy was performed to confirm the cause of his death.
Kurt Cobain
The lead singer, guitarist and main songwriter of the iconic rock band Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, was immortalized in his famous number “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. He founded the group Nirvana together with his friends, and their second album Nevermind topped the charts in 1991. He was a heroin addict and had tried to commit suicide to get rid of his chronic back and stomach pains.
Finally, on April 5, 1994, he allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with a shotgun. However, there are rumors that he was murdered. In an interview, his mother Wendy O’Connor said that Kurt was missing for six days and she feared he might be dead. Her exact words were: “Now he’s gone and joined that stupid club, I told him not to join that stupid club.” This statement from his mother confirmed people’s belief in the existence of the notorious 27 Club.

The last to join the infamous Club of 27 was British pop star, Amy Winehouse. She was known for her deep voice and the mixture of different music genres. He gained fame after the release of her debut album Frank. She won five Grammy awards in 2008 and her album Back To Black was number one in the European charts. She died mysteriously on July 23, 2011. The autopsy to determine the cause of death failed. So we really do not know the real reason for her death!
