If you are experiencing a similar issue, be aware that it’s pretty standard and nothing too worrying. With a few tweaks to the settings, you, too, can fix the problem in a matter of minutes.

What Is the Samsung Washer SUD Error Code?

What Can Cause the SUD Error Code?
Typically, the onset of a SUD error code in your Samsung washer is due to two reasons. First, it is influenced by the amount of detergent you use and the type of detergent you use.

If the SUD error code blares up every time you turn on the washer, it is likely due to the amount of detergent you are using. You can adjust the amount manually or scoop out the excess suds inside the washer.
Good-quality and high-efficiency Samsung washers require significantly less detergent. So, if you used one scoop of powder or liquid in your previous washer, the requirements might be less in the new Samsung washer.
2. Type of Detergent
Another factor that triggers the SUD error code is the detergent you use. Since Samsung washers are highly efficient, they recommend using a detergent of a similar caliber.
Ideally, you want to use a good-quality detergent with low sudsing properties. So always look for “high-efficiency (HE)” detergent in supermarkets. They work efficiently and ensure that you won’t have to work through the SUD error code time and time.
How To Fix or Reset the SUD Error Code?
If you notice the SUD error code in your Samsung washer, fixing the issue will require work from your end. If you have the time to spare, you can leave it by itself to resolve the issue. However, if you want to expedite the process, the following are the most effective ways to resolve the issue:
1. Remove Detergent Residue
Using high-efficiency detergent might mean you’d have remnant detergent in the washer tub. Adding your clothes and more detergent might lead to excess sudsing, thereby showing the SUD error code.
So, what we’d recommend you do to solve that issue is remove the detergent residue from inside the washer. The process of doing that is pretty simple.
Follow the steps:
- Switch on your Samsung washer and run a long cycle.
- To eliminate the stubborn detergent residue, we’d recommend setting the water temperature to high.
- Don’t put any clothes in the cycle and run it.
Once the washing cycle finishes and the excess water is drained, you can manually check the insides. If there is any remnant detergent left, clean it with a wet cloth.
2. Clean the Drain Pump Filter
Sometimes, excess detergent in the drain pump filter or blockages in the filter are also reasons the SUD error code is showing up. The excess build-up of suds, lint, and debris in the filter reduces its efficiency, leading to excess foaming.
Here’s what you can do to clean the drain pump filter:
- First, get a thick towel or cleaning cloth to soak up any excess water that drains out of the filter.
- Start by opening the access door of the filter. It is usually in front of Samsung washers.
- Use a thick towel or cloth to clean up excess water that is likely spilling out of the filter.
- Take out the emergency drain hose and remove the drain hose cap. You can drain the excess water into a bucket or outdoors.
- Keep the hose positioned in a way so all the excess water is drained out completely.
- From there, you have then next unscrew the drain filter.
- If the filter has excess debris or dirt trapped in it, you can also clean it up.
- Once the filter is cleaned, put it back inside the washer and secure it until you hear a clicking sound.
- Close all the open outlets you opened initially, and you are good to go.
Note: If you notice that the filter has stubborn dirt and debris, it is ideal to use soap and a brush to clean it thoroughly.
3. Check the Foam Level Sensor
The third and last way to fix the issue is by checking the foam level sensor. Sometimes, the sensors become faulty, leading to issues with the SUD error code falsely appearing.
Here’s what you can do to check the sensor:
- Start by disconnecting the Samsung washer from the power outlet.
- You need to remove the top access panel, the control panel, or the rear access panel in the washer, depending on the sensor’s location.
- Once you find the foam level sensor, open the user manual that comes with the product.
- You can check the sensor and remove it if it’s faulty.
- If you have a multimeter at home, check the sensor.
If it’s faulty and shows false positives, you’d need to buy a new foam-level sensor and replace it in the washer.
What If the SUD Code Still Displays?

The SUD Code Appears but No SUDS In Drum
If your SUD error code is showing up in the Samsung washer without any visible suds in the washer, it is due to a faulty sensor.

What If the Washer Still Shows the SUD Error Code?
Your last resort is to change the SUD sensor or remove it if nothing else is working. Ideally, changing a faulty sensor isn’t that difficult.
What we’d recommend you do is check the sensor’s wiring and parts. If one or multiple parts are broken in the sensor, it can lead to complications and errors.
In that case, replacing the sensor is your best bet. However, if you aren’t experienced, you can always hire someone to help you out.

SUD, 5D, and SD are the same error codes that indicate “over-sudsing.” The code might change depending on the model of the Samsung washer you are using.
