For strange reasons, humans seem to be wildly fascinated with the unknown. If it’s any proof, notice the current surge of horror movies springing up on cinemas everywhere. From stories of undead children and serial killers to cursed dolls and haunted homes, these films are being watched over and over by young and old alike.
Though at times (well, always) scary, it has never stopped people from exploring things beyond the grave. Does afterlife really exist? What about ghosts? 1. The Cooper Family Hanging Ghost
This picture has been shrouded in mystery for a few decades now. Taken in the 1950’s, the photo shows a happy family of four… with a little extra on the side. Apparently, the father who took this picture didn’t only photograph mom, grandma, and the two kids.
After the picture was developed, they were horrified to see a ‘body’ hanging upside down or falling beside them. Who is this man? Was he a former tenant of their new home? Why the ‘face’ is blurred is another mystery.
2. Creepy Photos: The ‘Brown Lady’ of Raynham Hall
This photo was reportedly taken on September 19, 1936 by Captain Hubert C. Provand, a photographer based in London who works for Country Life Magazine. Raynham Hall in Norfolk, England was known to be haunted by Lady Dorothy Townshend, who passed away in 1726.
Lady Townshend is said to be one of the most famous ghosts in England, with this shot being one of the most reputable ghost photographs ever captured.
3. The Bed-Ridden Boy
Taken at the Historic Worley B&B Inn in 1999 by a professional, these photos were stashed away for about four years. In 2003, while the staff of the said inn were looking at the images, they saw a blur on the picture. One employee noted that the blur resembled that of a ghostly figure lying on the bed.
The Inn believes that this ghost belongs to Claude Worley, a teenage boy who died in the 1800’s after being hit by a train. He reportedly passed away inside the house. See any resemblance? Or is it really just a processing error? You decide.
4. Grandfather Ghost
You’ve heard it all before: nothing lasts forever, not even love. But take a look at this photo and see if that is still the case. According to the source, Denise Russel, the grandma in this photo lived on her own until she was 94, and due to her failing health, she had to be moved to an assisted living home.
On August 17, 1997, a Sunday, the nursing home had a little celebration which involved a small picnic for the residents and their families. She (Russel) took some pictures, but it wasn’t until Christmas Day of 2000 when Russel’s family noticed something strange about the photo.
The picture shows a man standing behind her grandmother, a man who eerily looks a lot like their grandfather who passed away on August 14, 1984, also a Sunday. Talk about love that goes beyond the grave.
5. Queensland Ghost
In 1946, a certain Mrs. Andrews, a mother who recently lost her little girl, wanted to honor the memory of her daughter by visiting the latter’s grave and taking some photos.
After she had it developed, she was aghast to see this little girl. She said she had no idea who the child was. She also had experts look at her photo, who ruled out double exposure. Reportedly, the cemetery had a number of graves belonging to infants nearby.
6. The Ghost at The Waverly Hills Sanatorium, Kentucky
Welcome to The Waverly Hills Sanatorium, where patients suffering from Tuberculosis were brought before the discovery of the modern cure. Since there were no antibiotics that time, the only cure known was the good ol’ fresh air and sunshine.
Death was inevitable for the reported 8000 patients, and their bodies were just thrown down a chute and hauled away through a tunnel. Many believe their spirits still roam the hospice, the most popular being Mary Lee, a nurse who later contracted the disease.
She allegedly hanged herself using a light-bulb wire in Room 502 after finding out that she was pregnant with the child of one of the doctors. She was unmarried at that time. The sanatorium is now closed, but it is said to be one of the most haunted hospitals in the US.

7. Chloe’s Ghost At The Myrtle Plantation
The house standing on Myrtle Plantation is reportedly home to at least 12 ghosts, with the most famous (infamous?) of them being Chloe, who was seen to be wearing a green turban. She was allegedly a slave girl owned by Clark and Sara Woodruff.
After she was caught eavesdropping on one of Clark’s personal conversations, he sliced off one of her ears in rage. From then on, Chloe wore a green turban to hide her wound. As her revenge, she supposedly baked a cake containing an extract of a tremendously poisonous plant, oleander.
However, only Sara and the children ate her cake, and all died from the poison. Chloe was then captured by her fellow slaves, and was hanged subsequently. Her body was then thrown into the Mississippi River.
8. The Hidden Cowboy
Before you rule this out as a hoax, and therefore unworthy to be part of this 20 Creepy Photos That Might Make You Believe in Life after Death list, the man in this photo actually tried to recreate the photo to see if he will get the same results.
Ike Clanton, wearing his cowboy attire, wanted to have his photo taken in the widely popular Tombstone, Arizona. However, he found out he wasn’t alone in the photo. He tried to re-do the picture by having someone stand in the exact same location where the mystery guy showed up.
However, it was impossible to do so without having the person’s legs captured as well. Clanton didn’t think that Tombstone was haunted, but this image made him a believer.
9. Back Seat Ghost
Ever heard of stories that someone is with you inside the car when in fact, you’re driving alone? This one is just like that, except a photo was captured. Mable Chinnery, the woman who took this photo, went to visit her mother’s grave along with her husband, who is pictured here looking directly at the camera.
After the film was developed, they were surprised to see someone else at the back seat: none other than her mother whose grave she was visiting that day.
10. Robert A. Ferguson’s Ghost
While giving a speech at a convention in Los Angeles, California, Ferguson was photographed with a figure on his side. This was taken on November 16, 1968. The man beside Ferguson was then identified as his brother, Walter, who died in the Second World War. Is it real? No one knows for sure.
11. Filipino Ghost
What was supposed to be a fun night for these girls in the year 2000 turned extra creepy after they saw this photo. Captured using the camera of a cellular phone (thus the poor quality) in Manila, Philippines, a figure is seen here holding on to the other girl’s arm. Makes you want to stay in instead, doesn’t it?
12. The Tulip Staircase Ghost
The man who took this photo, Rev. Ralph Hardy, only wanted to take a photo of the beautiful staircase in the Queen’s House section in 1966. This is part of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, England. However, he was shocked to see a hooded figure trying to climb the stairs. Real or not? You be the judge.
13. The Healer White Lady of Worstead Church, Norfolk, UK
Back in 1975, Peter and Diane Berthelot paid the Worstead Church a short visit with their 12-year old son. Peter took a photo of his wife praying on one of the benches inside the church. However, when they had the film developed, they were surprised to see a white figure sitting right behind his wife.
The couple brought the picture back to the church, and the local priest said it was the ghost of a healer who was believed to be haunting the church.
14. Oak Grove Ghost
This place is so haunted that locals have begun to call it Ghost Bridge. Stories say that the ghost roaming the bridge belongs to a woman who was thrown off the bridge and into the waters by her soldier husband in the 1960’s.
Some even say that if you turn off your car in the middle of the bridge, it won’t start again unless you push it off the bridge or wait until sunrise. Weird, isn’t it?
15. Ghost of Wem Town Hall, England
Believe it or not, this photo was taken during a raging fire in 1995. The Wem Town Hall in Shropshire, England was engulfed in huge flames, and while the photographer didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary when he took this photo, it all changed after he had it developed.
A young girl appeared in the image, staring directly into the camera. So what brought her into that place? Allegedly, she is the ghost of a 14-year old girl named Jane Chum, who died in a fire in 1677 after she had been careless with a candle at the exact same location.
16. The Amityville Ghost
You may have heard already about the Amityville tragedy, but have you seen this photo? Reportedly taken in 1976, it is one of the most popular paranormal pictures of all time. It shows an image of a young boy seemingly peeking through a door.
Some say it is the ghost of the nine-year old boy John Defeo, who lived in the house and was murdered along with the rest of his family.
17. The Hospital Demon
Makes you want to wish the hospital bed would swallow you up instead, doesn’t it? This terrifying image was allegedly captured by a nurse on a surveillance camera.
According to the nurse, the figure was standing on top of a patient’s body. It was also seen walking up and down the body. A few hours after this was captured, the patient passed away. Creepy.
18. Farm Ghost
Professional wedding photographer Neil Sandbach was all set to take Creepy photos of the beautiful event. What he didn’t expect, however, is this photo that he unknowingly captured. It shows an image of an apparently floating boy, staring directly into the camera.
The photographer asked the staff if eerier things have happened before. They admitted to see the ghost of a boy in night clothes roaming around the farm. What’s his story? No one really knows.
19. Lord Combermere’s Ghost
Sybell Corbet took this photo of the library inside the Combermere Abbey, a former monastery in England. While everyone was about 4 miles away to attend Lord Combermere’s funeral (he was reportedly ran over by a horse-drawn carriage), the photographer set up the camera inside the library and left the shutter open for about an hour.
After the film was developed, they were surprised to see an image of the man who bore a striking resemblance to Lord Combermere, the man whom they buried just days ago.
20. Railroad Crossing Child Ghosts
This photo, taken in San Antonio, Texas, shows eerie visions that resembles children. According to some reports, they are the ghosts of the children who died in the crossing after a tragic accident in the 1940’s. They say that these child ghosts are known to push cars stuck in the crossing across the tracks to keep them safe.
