Travelling with the youngest members of your family can be a wonderful experience, albeit a stressful one. In order to manage the amount of anxiety brought by these child-inclusive voyages, you should plan quite thoroughly beforehand. Read on to find out travel hacks that will make your trip more enjoyable for you and your family.
1. Pack smart
If you’re short on luggage space you can try rolling your clothes. This hack comes with an additional benefit – it leaves your T-shirts wrinkle free! Another thing to note when it comes to packing – bags are your best friend. Grouping small items such as swimwear and underwear in smaller bags will help you find them in the suitcase more easily.
2. Rent baby gear
You don’t need to pack your entire nursery room when you travel with your kids! A lot of baby gear such as feeding chairs and even strollers can be rented out at arrival. If you’re planning to go to Singapore, for example, you should know that there are a lot of available baby products in Singapore. Similarly, you don’t have to haul multiple packets of diapers, it’s a guarantee you will find suitable diapers for your kids wherever you go.
3. Don’t forget headphones
Everyone knows that young kids can be extremely annoying for other passengers so the best thing you can do for others is to keep your children entertained for the duration of the flight. The easiest way to do so is to download their favourite videos beforehand and let them watch during the trip. However, the sounds made by kids shows can be irritating as well and here is where headphones come to play. Also, make sure that the headphones you purchase are suitable for small baby heads!
4. Bring reusable water bottles
Water bottles are a must for travelling but they are so easy to forget. Invest in a cute water bottle with an amusing cartoon character that your kids will love – they’re more likely to reach for the bottle if they like its design. Travelling can dehydrate you because of the low humidity in the planes and water bottles there can be quite expensive. Just don’t forget to empty the water bottles before you take off.
5. Painters tape for childproofing
Most of the hotels around the globe aren’t child proof. The dangers of exposed sockets can be effortlessly avoided by using some painters tape. It doesn’t take up a lot of space in your luggage and can be quite helpful for cushioning sharp furniture edges too!
6. Have an extra Ziploc bag
Ziploc bags are very useful for long travels so make sure to have a spare one in your carry on at all times. It can be used for a wide range of things such as for accidentally soiled underwear or as a barf bag if someone gets travel sickness.
7. Visit a dollar store
Before you go on the trip visit the dollar store. There you will find a wide variety of knick-knacks and cheap toys which will entertain your young ones during the trip and you won’t be breaking the bank. The best things to get there are colouring pens and books, plushies and small plastic toys.
8. Pack spare outfits
You never know when your kid will spill something on you or on themselves so the best thing you can do is pack spare outfits for the entire family. Pack them in the individual baggies and put them in your backpack or carry on. We as parents often forten about ourselves and only pack spare outfits for our kids but the sad truth is that your infant is very likely to accidentally puke on you.
