1. Create A Budget

It can be difficult to settle on a destination when you don’t have a clear budget that you can spend in mind. Make sure that you think about how much you can afford or willing to spend well in advance. This will help narrow down some options for you and make sure that you don’t overspend. As well as creating a budget for the holiday itself, it’s also a good idea to have a budget on spending money. Have a think about how much you’d like to take overall and have a daily spending cap. Make sure you take into account trips and excursions too as sometimes they can be most costly.

2. Book well in advance

When you book flights online in advance, you are much more likely to get a better deal. This could leave you with some extra money to spend on things that you’d like to do on holiday.  There are some top airlines such as Porter Airlines that you can look at. The same goes for accommodation if you are thinking about using Airbnb or perhaps renting out a villa. Make sure you look at all available options before you book.

3. Dates are important

Dates are important when you are booking a holiday. Even choosing a week before or after you had originally intended could make a massive difference when it comes to price. When doing your research, ensure that you check out a few different dates to see which works out best for you.  You never know – changing your plans up by just a few days can make all the difference.

4. Research your Destination

Make sure that you go online and do lots of research as to what’s round about you when booking your holiday. That way you can have a clear plan of places that you’d like to visit and won’t miss anything out. There’s also great 3rd party review sites where you can have a look at other peoples’ experiences there. Here you can expect honest and objective feedback which will help verify where you would like to go. If it’s a restaurant or hotel you are looking at, it will also give you some idea of the level of customer service you can expect based on their responses.  You can also look at local groups on social media to see where local people go if you are looking for a truly unique experience when you get there.

5. Book your Transfers or Parking Early

There’s always an element of excitement when going on holiday, so the last thing you want to worry about is getting to the airport on time or having to wait around for ages when you get to your destination. Make sure you book how you are getting to and from the airport well in advance to alleviate that stress factor. If you are driving to the airport, make life easy for yourself and book parking before your trip. There are lots of options these days, including meet and greet parking, valet parking and more. You can often just book and pay for your slot online and you are sorted.

6. Prepare for the Sun

If you are going to warmer climates – then you will definitely need to ensure you have prepared for the heat. Make sure you have adequate sun screen at the right factor for your skin type. If you aren’t sure what’s best for you – ask the advice of a pharmacist. As well as sun screen, you will also want to make sure you have sun glasses to protect your eyes. Sun hats are also a must have, and a fashionable accessory these days. Sun stroke and sun burn can ruin your holiday if you get it too early on.

That way you are curbing any anxiety you may have when getting ready to check in or board your flight. It could also be that you require a visa to go to your destination – don’t delay the application process for this and complete as soon as possible.

8. Make Sure your Hotel has Everything you Need

If you are travelling with children for example you may have some special requirements such as a cot that is needed in the room. Even though you could have discussed this with your travel agent or made a note online – there is always room for human error. To keep your mind at ease, why not call the hotel up in advance just to double check everything will be as it should upon your arrival.

9. Get your Inflight Entertainment Ready

If you are in for a long haul flight, you will want to make sure there are lots of things to keep you occupied. Sometimes there will be inflight movies or TV shows as part of the flight, but it’s always a good idea to come prepared. You can download some of your favourite shows on your iPad to enjoy during the flight. You also might want to have a book ready on your kindle or get some of your favourite snacks.  If you have kids, make sure that you take some toys or stories to keep them entertained.  The last thing you need is any temper tantrums when on a flight.

10. Create a Holiday Checklist

If you forget something when you are going on holiday it can be a real hassle. You aren’t in a familiar environment- and may not know where any of the local shops or pharmacies are. This might not be the start to your trip you were looking for. As such, it’s a good idea to have a holiday checklist in place. That way you can check off as you go to make sure you don’t forget anything. You can do it the old fashioned way with pen and paper, or you can get apps for your phone too in case you need to go shopping for some of it and need to take it with you.

If you are getting all set to go on a summer holiday, make sure you plan well in advance and take some of these things into consideration for the perfect trip.
